This new table game is a modern twist on the traditional seven-card pai gow poker. According to Espino, the five-card variation speeds up gameplay, allowing more hands per hour and reduces errors from dealers and players alike. Unlike the traditional version where the high hand is made of five cards and the low hand with two, five-card pai gow uses just three cards for the high hand and two for the low.
Espino highlighted that the objective remains simple: players compete against the dealer, aiming to split two hands and secure a win on both to claim victory. If players win one hand and lose the other, the result is a push. Harrah’s casino manager, Lucas Botsis, commented on the field trial’s positive reception, noting that this streamlined variant quickly intrigued players due to its familiarity and ease of play.

Players find an advantage in being able to see the dealer’s cards before handling their own, offering a strategic edge. The game unfolds from left to right, mirroring traditional poker experiences. Dustin Brown, Vice President of Gaming for Caesars Entertainment, expressed high hopes for incorporating a progressive jackpot into five-card pai gow poker. Brown anticipates the game will expand to other casinos, including the Flamingo, and increase financial performance metrics like the hold percentage, drop, and win.
Espino himself is optimistic about the future, seeing the potential spread of the five-card pai gow across all Caesars properties.
