With gross gaming revenue reaching $21.1 million in April, Nebraska casinos showcase significant growth compared to $8.2 million last year. This surge highlights the potential of Nebraska’s casino market as it continues to expand. The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission reports that electronic gaming devices contributed $18.1 million to this figure.
Impact of Electronic Gaming on Revenue
The importance of electronic gaming is evident as electronic table games brought in $429,943, while traditional table games generated $2 million. Retail sportsbooks also contributed, yielding $496,207. WarHorse Casino Lincoln, Grand Island Casino & Resort, Harrah’s Columbus, and WarHorse Casino Omaha each reported year-over-year revenue growth, underscoring the upward trend in Nebraska’s gaming sector.
Among these, WarHorse Casino Omaha and Harrah’s Columbus led significant gains. WarHorse Casino Omaha’s revenue climbed from $40,117 to $6.8 million, while Harrah’s Columbus rose from $1,551 to $2.3 million. Grand Island Casino saw a growth of 59.1%, with revenue increasing from $3.4 million to $5.4 million, and WarHorse Casino Lincoln experienced a 33.2% increase, moving from $4.8 million to $6.8 million.
Legal Landscape and Sports Wagering
Nebraska’s commercial casinos are positioned on racetracks, offering in-person sports wagering as a part of their amenities. However, online wagering and igaming remain illegal in the state. The legislation to legalize online sports betting was dropped in April, primarily due to insufficient support.
