Mohegan Sun Reality Show Engages Casino Patrons

Mohegan Sun’s proximity to major cities like New York and Boston has made it a popular location for TV and film. In the 2019 movie Uncut Gems, Adam Sandler’s character mentions the casino several times. Mohegan Sun’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications, George Galinsky, envisioned a unique reality show about the casino’s back-of-the-house employees. Network executives, however, preferred a Sin City-style show.

Galinsky decided to independently create Back of House, a digital reality series showcasing Mohegan Sun’s vibrant atmosphere. “We just created our own reality show and distributed it digitally, avoiding network restrictions,” Galinsky explained during the Casino Marketing & Technology Conference in Temecula, California.

Featuring celebrity appearances from names like former New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski, rapper Snoop Dogg, and lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, Back of House highlights the casino experience. The celebrities waived their fees to participate. The show aims to increase awareness of Mohegan Sun, showcasing its architecture, design, and exceptional guest service.

Chefs, front office staff, and various behind-the-scenes workers share the spotlight in the series. Participation was unpaid, but employees found it enjoyable. Galinsky mentioned, “It’s something anyone can do. With social media’s reach, even smaller scale clips can spotlight behind-the-scenes activities.”

As the show enters its 10th season, Galinsky noted the increased pride and excitement among employees. The production has honored their contributions, creating a sense of ownership and anticipation.

The series runs continuously online and in hotel rooms at Mohegan Sun. Initially hesitant, casino patrons now eagerly participate. “We’ve reached a point where patrons want to be in the show,” Galinsky shared. It has shifted from reluctance to a desire to be featured, enhancing loyalty and engagement.

The Mohegan Sun reality show not only brings the casino’s atmosphere to life but also fosters stronger connections with its audience. This authentic portrayal strengthens brand loyalty and community spirit.
