Iowa casino revenue declined by 2.7% in June, with the state generating $136.9 million compared to $140.7 million in the previous year. According to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s report, 11 out of 19 casinos in Iowa posted lower revenues compared to last June.
Leading the revenue chart, Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino earned $19.2 million, marking a slight drop of 0.3% from the previous year. Horseshoe Council Bluffs followed closely, despite experiencing a substantial 9.5% decline in year-over-year revenue.
Iowa Casino Revenue Sees Major Fluctuations
Significant year-over-year revenue differences were noted at Ameristar II, where earnings fell by about 14%, from $15.5 million to $13.4 million. Similarly, Riverside Casino and Golf Resort reported an 11.3% decline, resulting in $10 million in revenue.
Not all Iowa casinos saw losses, however. Diamond Jo Worth stood out with a remarkable 16.5% increase in revenue year-over-year. No other casino in the state posted revenue gains exceeding 10%.
Changes in the Iowa Casino Landscape
Table games across the state generated $12.8 million, while slot machines contributed $124.1 million in revenue for June, both showing modest declines compared to last June. The Iowa casino landscape might be poised for further shifts as a judge approved a proposed Cedar Rapids casino project.
