Gaming Industry Overview

Dan Politzer of J.P. Morgan shared an update on gaming stocks. ‘Macau was one of the more debated areas of our coverage,’ Politzer noted. He discussed whether the recent rise in GGR represents a significant shift due to promotions or events.

On the Las Vegas Strip, Politzer reported minimal opposition to a cautious outlook. With potential improvements in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, aided by major events, a positive shift remains anticipated.

Regionally, investors seek to understand the sustainability of increasing GGR growth—reports indicated 2% in March, 5% in April, and 7% in May. Promos, favorable timing, or consumer behavior might be contributing factors, despite an uncertain economic future.

IGT Sale to Apollo

David Katz from Jefferies reviewed IGT’s forthcoming sale to Apollo Management. He anticipated that IGT would reveal capital return plans, possibly including dividends or share buybacks, applying about $2 billion for debt reduction from proceeds.

The firm’s hefty bid for the Italian lotto concession affected shares, but Katz sees the update as a potential booster, despite recent declines.

Las Vegas Strip Report

Barry Jonas at Truist Securities reported a 4% year-over-year decline in May Strip gross gaming revenue. Baccarat wins dipped by 10%, and core revenue dropped 3%, despite an extra weekend in May. Local markets remained steady year-over-year. Summer softening was noted, but hopes for Q4 improvements persist.

New York Online Sports Betting

J.P. Morgan’s Politzer discussed New York Gaming Commission’s weekly online sports betting updates. For the week ending June 22, OSB GGR tracked 24% above the previous year. The handle grew 12%, leading to a 10.7% hold rate.

Breakdowns by companies included DraftKings with a 17% increase in GGR and 10.5% hold rate. FanDuel saw 12% GGR growth with a 12.6% hold rate. BetMGM experienced significant gains of 68% in GGR, maintaining a 9.1% hold rate. Caesars and ESPN BET reported varied figures.
