Idaho Golf Course Wins Top Spot for Public Courses

Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel’s Circling Raven golf course has been recognized as the best public golf course in Idaho, winning the top spot for public courses. Golf Digest included it in their “America’s Greatest Courses by State, 2025-26” with Circling Raven ranked as the No. 6 course in the state overall.

All courses above it are private, highlighting Circling Raven’s excellence among public courses. Golf Digest panelists used eight criteria—shot options, challenge, layout variety, distinctiveness, aesthetics, conditioning, and character—to evaluate courses.

Resort CEO Laura Penney shared, “Our commitment ensures Circling Raven remains a premier amenity of Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel. This recognition underscores our effective best practices.”

Circling Raven golf course, designed by Gene Bates, is operated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, which also owns the casino resort. Both Don Rasmussen, PGA as the Director of Golf, and Superintendent Kal Zaranec, ensure the course conditions meet high standards.

Located in the picturesque Idaho panhandle, Circling Raven covers 620 acres in the Palouse Region. The course, named after a tribal chief, is surrounded by woodlands, wetlands, and wildlife, including eagles and moose.

Positioned only 50 minutes from Spokane International Airport, Circling Raven stretches 7,189 yards from the back tees, offering a challenging yet enjoyable experience. The course’s acclaim extends beyond the state, with high rankings in Resort Course, Casino Course, and Pro Shop categories nationwide.
