NFL Advances Responsible Gambling Research for College Athletes

“We’re proud to partner with the ICRG to advance research that can drive meaningful solutions and address a critical gap in the understanding of gambling behaviors among college athletes and students,” said NFL Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility Anna Isaacson. According to the announcement, initial studies indicate college athletes may be at higher risk for gambling problems, yet comprehensive data on their interactions with online sports betting remains scarce.

Empowering Data-Driven Strategies

This partnership enables researchers to explore topics to develop prevention strategies, education, and anti-gambling policies. Grant applications undergo peer review before the ICRG Independent Scientific Advisory Board selects the final recipient. The NFL also funds updates to the ICRG’s educational resources for preventing youth gambling exposure. These materials will be available online and distributed nationwide to schools and youth programs.

ICRG President Arthur Paikowsky stated, “The NFL has once again demonstrated its commitment to player and fan protection by supporting this critical research targeting young adults. Our combined efforts will enhance understanding and implementation of safer gambling policies.”
