Dotty’s slot parlor sees another reimbursement of $1.75 million for overpaid gaming taxes, just one year after receiving an initial $3.1 million refund. The Nevada Gaming Commission’s decision gives the operator a total of nearly $5 million after further investigation, with the possibility of a third reimbursement on the horizon.
Dotty’s Slot Parlor Reimbursement Details
Owned by Nevada Restaurant Services, Dotty’s rightfully pursued interest payments under state law despite initial reluctance from Commission members. The mistake led to the tax overpayment. Agreeing to waive interest payments, which would have exceeded $1 million in both cases, Dotty’s also settled to reimburse the Gaming Control Board for 302 hours of investigative work totaling $60,400. This latest reimbursement, based on $27.3 million in gaming revenue, followed a similar payout approved by the Commission last year.
The $3.1 million refund initially covered taxes on $46.9 million in gaming revenue, equating to about 6.75% of that sum. The recent claim spans September 2019 to August 2021, compared to the previous claim that started in August 2021.
Upcoming Claims and Future Prospects
The five-year statute of limitation for claiming refunds implies Dotty’s cannot recover several millions from earlier periods. The operator filed its current claim in September 2024. A pending third claim concerning bonus jackpot payouts remains undisclosed, adding intrigue to Dotty’s ongoing financial adjustments.
The revisited overpayments are attributed to a Konami casino management system oversight. This system failed to exclude non-taxable cash promotions from gaming revenue. For instance, if $5 was given to a player and won back, it should not be taxed.
Commission member Brian Krolicki emphasized the importance of accurate tax payments. “Companies shouldn’t pay excessive taxes, nor should they pay too little,” Krolicki stated. Commission member Rosa Solis-Rainey commended Dotty’s for once more waiving interest payments.
